PLAY card basics
Georgia Public Library Service and PINES public libraries partner with school districts across Georgia to offer PINES Library Access for Youth (PLAY). The PLAY student library card program provides fines-free access to books and online resources to help students succeed in school.
Children learning to read, youth doing research, and teens preparing for college have immediate access to fines-free public library materials and resources using their public school student ID.

Top 5 tips to keep students and schools engaged in PLAY
In addition to in-library promotion, you can continue to educate kids, parents, and partners on the PLAY card, its benefits, and uses.
- At school: Connect with students, families, and educators by attending school events like open houses, registration events, PTA meetings, literacy nights, and STEM days.
- In the classroom: Meet with teachers, media specialists, and educators to empower them to be advocates for PLAY. Lead in-classroom presentations, present at school staff meetings, or district in-service days.
- All year long: Stay connected throughout the year – especially when school is out! Encourage students to keep reading and learning with Summer Reading Program. Consider simple incentives for schools or classes with the most challenge completions.
- Across the community: Attend local community outreach events such as seasonal festivals, nonprofit awareness days, partnership events, and more.
- With leaders and elected officials: Partner with the Mayor’s Reading Club to promote literacy and PLAY. Give a presentation to civic groups such as the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, or others.
In person and word-of-mouth are the most effective ways to reach your audiences, but you can also keep the conversation going online. Share social media posts with photos and success stories about the PLAY card. Ask your school district to periodically share flyers with their e-flyer system.
More tips
- Take photos and ask for quotes when you are speaking with people at events. You can use these as testimonials on social media, your website, and in other marketing efforts.
- Make your table/booth engaging to draw people’s attention. Bring Launchpads, Wonderbooks, and other fun interactive items to show the types of learning resources that can be checked out. Have a tablet or laptop where you can demonstrate how easy it is to access GALILEO, eRead Kids, and your library’s e-library online services. Bring colorful PLAY marketing materials and giveaways to keep the program top of mind.
Continue to PLAY!
Let students be the champions!
- Partner with school theatre groups or performing arts classes to produce a video to be played in schools and on library social media.
- Engage with school civic clubs so students will be advocates to share with other students about PLAY card uses and benefits.
