A three-hour workshop for your board(s) of trustees, based on the Tools for Trustees manual.
This manual was created as a directed independent study project as part of the Specialist’s Degree program in Information Studies at Florida State University. It would not have been possible without the support of Dr. Lamar Veatch, state librarian of Georgia, and Dr. John Carlo Bertot, professor, School of Information Studies, Florida State University.
The author acknowledges the integral role of the project Advisory Committee, appointed by Dr. Veatch. This group shepherded the entire process, providing input, feedback, and moral support at every step along the way. Thanks to committee members:
Susan Cooley, Director, Sara Hightower Regional Library, Rome
Mary Lee Davis, Trustee, DeKalb County Public Library, Decatur
Dr. Wallace B. Eberhard, Professor Emeritus, Henry W. Grady College of Journalism, University of Georgia; and Former Trustee, Athens-Clarke County Library, Athens
Joe Forsee, Director, Northwest Georgia Regional Library System, Dalton
Greg Heid, Director, Newton County Library System, Covington
Donna Howell, Director, Mountain Regional Library System, Young Harris
Alan Kaye, Director, Roddenbery Memorial Library, Cairo
Lianne Keeney, Former Regional Board Chair, Chestatee Regional Library System, Dawsonville
Claudya Muller, Director, Chattahoochee Valley Regional Library System, Columbus
David W. Singleton, Deputy State Librarian, Georgia Public Library Service, Atlanta
Examination of the public library trustee manuals from many other states has been helpful in the preparation of this manual. Thanks are also due to David Baker, Peggy Chambliss, and Susan Roberts of Georgia Public Library Service and to Debra Capponi of Chestatee Regional Library System, as well as the authors of previous manuals for public library trustees in Georgia: Georgia Library Trustees Association (no date); Betsy Curry (1984); and Public Library Services of the Georgia Department of Education (1996), Mary Charles Roberts and Diana Ray Tope.
